Uttaradit: Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, a prime ministerial candidate of the United Thai Nation (UTN) Party, has urged people to think carefully before casting their ballots, warning that picking the wrong politicians could be detrimental to the country.
He was speaking as he led an election campaign in Tha Pla district to seek support for the party’s candidates running for three constituency seats in the northern province. He was greeted by thousands of residents.
The candidates are Pimnattha Jiraphuttiphak for the 1st Constituency seat; Rosarin Sarankate for the 2nd Constituency seat, and Saranwut Sarankate for the 3rd Constituency seat.
Speaking to the crowd, Gen Prayut said: “The election is approaching and I’d like to ask people to think carefully [before casting ballots] because a misstep could lead the country in the wrong direction.”
Gen Prayut asked residents to join forces with the UTN by voting for the three candidates of the UTN, saying the party needs to win a majority of House seats in the May 14 election so it can become the next government and follow through with projects initiated by the outgoing government.
He said the government has implemented several projects, including road construction projects in Uttaradit, and road expansion projects will also be on the cards if the UTN forms the new government.
“We must now move towards a new era of the world. We must also look at what’s going on in the outside world, not just in our own country.
“We can gather here after Covid-19 eased. I managed the situation until it returned to normalcy. A government leader must also be a leader in a crisis,” Gen Prayut said.
He added that national security is also a priority and military personnel who take care of security affairs need moral support from the people. During the campaign, Gen Prayut accepted letters of complaints from local residents asking him to address various issues.
