Prawit chairs first cabinet meeting, PM’s seat left empty

Deputy Primary Minister and caretaker prime minister Prawit Wongsuwon chaired his first weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday, but the prime minister’s seat normally filled by Prayut Chan-o-cha was left empty in his honour.

Gen Prawit smiled and greeted reporters when he entered Government Home to chair the meeting for the first time in his capacity as caretaker prime minister following a Constitutional Court’s judgment suspending Gen Prayut from duty.

Gen Prawit said he designed to leave the prime minister’s seat empty to honour Gen Prayut, who still held  the post associated with prime minister even though suspended from duty.    

The court ordered Gen Paryut’s suspension after this ruled to accept regarding deliberation a request asking for  the ruling on his eight-year tenure as perfect minister.

Gen Prawit mentioned he would sit within the deputy prime minister’s seat. Gen Prayut, as defence minister, would attend the cabinet meeting via video link from his office at the ministry.

During the meeting, the particular cabinet approved altering a prime ministerial order to increase the strength of the acting leading minister to include the particular authority to transfer officials and approve budgets.

Gen Prawit brought the meeting, pursuing the agenda for three hrs straight with no break. Gen Prayut took part quietly by way of a Zoom meeting room. He did not speak during the meeting as there was no Defence Ministry business on the agenda.
