In the state of Karnataka, thousands of clips reportedly showing an American MP sexually abusing women have been circulated, causing anger.
Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of assaulting some women, is the subject of an investigation by the authorities.
Mr. Revanna has no commented, but a representative from his company has refuted the claims, saying that the movies are fake.
The powerful MP is HD Deve Gowda’s granddaughter.
In the officers complaint brought by a former family employee, his father HD Revanna, who is a member of the Karnataka state legislature, is likewise accused. He has denied the complaints, calling them a political conspiracy.
On Monday, their party Janata Dal ( Secular ), or JD ( S), announced it was suspending Prajwal Revanna. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which was founded by Mr. Gowda, forms a coalition with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party.
Karnataka’s Chief Minister K Siddaramaiah said that a special investigation team ( SIT ) will look into the case, based on a request by the state’s women’s commission.
A moment after his district Hassan cast its ballot in the public vote on April 26, the allegations against Prajwal Revanna came to light. In the upcoming congress, Mr. Revanna is the MP from Hassan and is attempting to win a second term.
It’s not clear who leaked the video, but according to a record by the Indian Express paper, more than 2, 000 ink drives were circulated ahead of the vote. The videos, according to reports, featured Mr. Revanna’s own facial expressions on the reportedly misused people.
According to a source,” the pen drives were kept on vehicle seats, at van stands, and were distributed to people in public spaces like gardens.” More than 2, 000 records, including photos and videos, were on these ink drives. After a few hours, we saw these being broadly shared on WhatsApp”.
Following the incident, Karnataka’s children’s payment key Nagalakshmi Chaudhary wrote to the condition police chief seeking actions against the culprits.
” Your blood boils when you see some of the videos”, she told the BBC. ” There is one person who is begging…’ please do n’t, please do n’t’. You feel sick”.
On Sunday, a 47- season- old lady, who worked as a kitchen for the home and identified herself as a cousin of Mr Revanna’s mother, filed a police complaint alleging that she was romantically abused by the MP and his father.
” When I joined, six other girls would claim they were scared of Prajwal. The female people, also, would ask us to be watchful of]HD] Revanna and his brother Prajwal”, she said in her problem.
” Whenever his wife was away, ]HD] Revanna would repeatedly touch me inappropriately, disrobe me and sexually assault me. While I was working in the kitchen, Prajwal had accost me from behind”, she added.
The girl claimed she made the decision to come forward after watching online videos of another victims.
She even accused Prajwal Revanna of abusing her child, and his father of stalking and legal harassment.
Prajwal Revanna has left the country, according to authorities, with some reports claiming that he is in Germany. However, his papa has refuted the assertion and said they are open to an investigation. ” We wo n’t run away scared. We’re best here. We’ll store these fees as per the law”, he told reporters.
The situation has sparked a political surprise in Karnataka. Some people questioned how a person who was “accused of such a brutal work” was allowed to leave without questioning.
A state secretary wrote on X, previously Twitter, asking Mr. Modi to describe why the empire had chosen Prajwal Revanna for the poll “knowing that hundreds of women had been abused by the candidate.”
The JD ( S ) has also distanced itself from the two politicians. HD Revanna’s brother, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, on Monday called them” an embarrassment to society”.
” Do n’t blame the family”, he told reporters. ” HD Revanna and his family are separate. I do n’t keep track of his movements”.
If the allegations were proven, GT Deve Gowda, senior party leader, said party leaders would institute disciplinary proceedings against the two men.
