‘Powerful’ explosion hits ship at China port

BEIJING: A “powerful explosion” ripped through a container ship on Friday ( Aug 9 ) in eastern China ‘s&nbsp, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, one of the world’s busiest.

No injuries or deaths were soon brought on by the explosion.

A game of lights spewed dirt high into the air into the ship’s deck, which was captured on video.

The blast occurred at around 1.40pm native time on the bow of the YM Mobility, moored at the harbor in Zhejiang province, state news agency Xinhua reported.

One of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp’s cargo boats caught flames, according to Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp.

The fleet, docked at the city’s Beilun switch, was transporting toxic products, the Ningbo Maritime Search and Rescue Centre said.

According to CCTV, the items included sodium batteries and tert-butyl peroxybenzoate, an organic substance that should not be stored in an atmosphere above 30C, according to preliminary results from government.

” An investigation is underway” to determine the cause of the incident, Xinhua said.

Dark fire vehicles sprayed jets of water onto the burned vessel as black smoke poured out from the sky over the vehicle.

The nearby beach watch had been called in to help with the answer, according to status broadcaster CCTV, who had reported that the fire had been extinguished by 5pm.

” After primary identification, all dock staff and vehicle staff are secure and there are no casualties”, CCTV reported.

The large Ningbo-Zhoushan port is one of the nation’s busiest in terms of goods throughput.
