Postponement of shorter working hours due to shortage of workers, says Saravanan

KUALA LUMPUR: The postponement from the amendment of the Work Act 1955 is a result of the shortage of workers, says Datuk Seri M Saravanan.

He said the government should listen to all stakeholders, including that some space should be given to companies to recover their companies.

“I see that their requests are rational. Maybe inside a month or two when we have got solved the issue of lack of workers, it will probably be more suitable for us to implement, ” stated the Human Resource Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich)

“If all of us implement the shorter working hours from 48 hours to 45 hours each week, they might face a lot more problems in terms of increasing productivity, ” this individual added when talking with the media on the Conference and Exhibit on Occupational Protection and Health – COSH 2022 release.

Saravanan additional on Monday (Aug 29) that regarding 47, 000 foreign workers have moved into Malaysia to complete the gaps within the job market.

Of the numbers, about 19, 000 that have inserted are from Nepal, he said, incorporating that 390, 1000 workers have been authorized for work.

On Friday (Aug 26), Saravanan introduced the postponement from the implementation to the amendments of the Employment Take action 1955 after a meeting with stakeholders, citing financial recovery.

Saravanan also denied there are any issues concerning foreign workers.

“We have solved issues concerning foreign workers.

“The number of foreign employees is up to the employers. The government can only help solve issues regarding the memorandum of understanding and only the process.

“Right now, the issue is only between companies and source nations or agents in source countries, ” he said.
