Post-summer deluges make their debut

The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain that will engulf some parts of the nation, including Bangkok, from Tuesday through Sunday.

The west monsoon will enhance from May 13 to May 17, according to the forecast, bringing popular thunderstorms to the nation.

The rain will gradually decrease from May 18 to May 22, but afternoon and evening showers will proceed, with an expected increase in precipitation from May 23 to May 25.

From Tuesday through Sunday, storms are forecast for 60 to 80 percent of Bangkok’s areas, with the exception of heavy rain and gusty winds.

After Saturday’s torrential downpours caused widespread flooding, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration ( BMA ) is on high alert. Although liquid levels in most locations cooled quickly, some places remained flooded. To organize response plans and 24-hour surveillance, BMA officials met with storm control personnel.

About 80 % of Bangkok experienced rain on Sunday, and even though it was much less severe than it had been the night before, drainage was hampered by power interruptions and fallen branches in major rivers.

Heavy rain even impacted southern regions, including Phuket, flooding many bridges in the towns of Thalang, Muang, and Kathu.

The formal declaration is expected the following week, with the gloomy season usually beginning in mid-May.

In a different instance, People’s Party MP Rukchanok Srinork criticized some Bangkok Metropolitan Council people for placing water pumps installations in socially advantageous sections instead than flood-prone areas.

She advocated that pumps implementation be based on need rather than political control.
