Port project waits on PM's directive
In the Klong Toey area, Bangkok Port is a short distance from the Chao Phraya River. The Transport Ministry wo n’t know more about the order’s move to Chon Buri until the Port Authority of Thailand ( PAT ) has final approval of its plan to convert Bangkok Port in Klong Toey district into a mixed-use development.

In her capacity as the captain superintendent of PAT operations, deputy transport secretary Manaporn Charoensri stated on Thursday that the ministry would wait until Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s clarification to understand whether he meant the port itself entirely or just some of the port’s activities may be relocated to Laem Chabang.

At a government conference on April 2 the recommendation to move Bangkok’s major port outside the city was put forth in the hope of reducing traffic and pollution.

A feasibility review will be launched as per the prime minister’s purchase. But, the Transport Ministry will wait for an established training from the PM before proceeding, she said.

Ms. Manaporn claimed that only some areas of the harbor should be relocated to make the most of the available space and raise the quality of life for the residents.

The Touch had previously suggested a similar plan to transform the 2, 353-acre interface from a major transport hub, which would be supported by a mixed-use advancement on the premises.

Under the Tickle plan, the area may be divided into four zones.

Offices and sogenannte” wise community residences” may be located in Zone A.

Zone B, however, had number a” bright harbor” with modern equipment and amenities, including semi- automated port installations.

Zone C was earmarked for retail stores, hotels, and office retailers, while Zone D may have stores and a sports advanced.

The development would keep the port’s annual capacity at 1.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units ( TEU), which would reduce Thailand’s logistics costs to 0.77 % of GDP.

Bidding for a 32-rai story needed to finish the site’s area consolidation process has been announced, but it has now been halted pending an official PM’s purchase.

” We do n’t know if the current plan is similar to the PAT proposal, as none of the official statements have been sent to the ministry”, said Ms Manaporn.
