Policewoman accused of abusing employee denied bail

Ratchaburi Court on Monday denied the release upon bail of a junior policewoman accused of physically abusing an additional woman, a former enthusiast, who worked from her coffee shop in Muang district, Ratchaburi.

She is Pol Cpl Kornsasi Buayaem, 43, attached with Special Branch Bureau 1 of the Royal Thai Police.

The woman turned herself in to Muang police in Ratchaburi upon Saturday  and had been charged with dereliction of duty, violence, deprivation of freedom, physical abuse and human trafficking.

She was arrested after the girl former employee informed reporters she have been detained, physically abused and mistreated by her boss just before finally managing in order to flee. Her tale made headlines and prompted the national police chief in order to order an urgent investigation.

Police took Pol Cpl Kornsasi from Muang police place to the Ratchaburi Courtroom on Monday early morning and applied to detain her for an additional 12 days while they continue their own investigation.

Pol Col Tanin Chatcharoenporn, deputy superintendent of Phetchaburi police, opposed bail.

The former employee also appeared on the court. She has been accompanied by members with her family, a person identified as Kanthat Pongpaiboonvej alias Kan Chompalang, and lawyer Krisda Lohitdee.

The court endorsed the defendant’s  additionally detention and declined her request for relieve on bail.
