Officer stable, pregnant woman detained on attempted murder charge
A police officer at the Phra Khanong station in Bangkok was shot early Saturday in front of his workplace by a pregnant woman later revealed to be one of his multiple wives.
The incident took place just after midnight on Saturday when Pol Lt Col Kasityos Phraekhao stepped out for a cigarette behind the police station’s shrine, where he was accosted by a woman in a maternity dress. The two were heard arguing loudly before the woman drew a firearm and shot him in his left side.
The injured officer fled inside to the One Stop Service desk of the station, where on-duty officers provided him aid and engaged in a discussion with the distraught woman, convincing her to surrender.
The shooter has since been charged with attempted murder of an on-duty authority and possession of a firearm in an urban area without a permit. Pol Lt Col Kasityos was taken to the Police General Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.
According to initial investigations, the woman who carried out the shooting was the fourth of the officer’s four wives. His first wife was reported to be deceased.
Pol Col Vajirakorn Wongboon, the superintendent of the Phra Kanong station, said the incident was a domestic issue and should not affect the image of the police force.
