PM Wong warns of deepfakes of him promoting scam products, services

This is not the first moment a Singapore president has been the subject of photoshopped movies.

In June 2024, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong warned people about algorithmic clips of him commenting on international relations and international officials.

” The purpose of these deepfakes may not be professional, but their nefarious purpose is obvious”, Mr Lee then said in a Twitter post.

” One behind them wants to make it seem that these are opinions supported by me or the Singapore state. This is dangerous and potentially damaging to our national passions”.

He even asked members of the public in December 2023 never to listen to con video promising guaranteed returns on assets or prizes.

In the improved videos, Mr Lee is seen being interviewed by a reporter from Chinese media networking CGTN. They discussed an investment opportunity apparently approved by the Singapore state, referring to it as a “revolutionary investment program designed by Elon Musk”.

The movie ended with the reporter urging people to click on a website to register for the program to generate “passive income”.

The algorithmic video appeared to have been manipulated from CGTN’s true meeting with Mr Lee in Singapore in March 2023.

Deepfakes are created using artificial intelligence ( AI ) techniques to&nbsp, alter or manipulate visual and audio content.
