Despite recent bombings in the area, Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has announced that Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra may travel to Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat on Thursday.
Mr Phumtham, even military department, on Tuesday addressed two weapon incidents in tambon Ano Ru in Muang region in Pattani, which injured six military rangers on Monday night and an explosion in Sri Sakhon region in Narathiwat, killing two police officers, on Tuesday.
” The National Security Council meet discussed this southern upheaval.” Whenever we reduce the protection of disaster laws, situations occur, seemingly aligned with the objective of specific groups”, said Mr Phumtham.
” So, I believe we need to evaluate the situation. I’ve told the government to evaluate whether the actions we’ve put in place have improved or hampered the outcome within a fortnight, he said.
Mr. Phumtham stated that the prime minister had set a visit to the southern frontier provinces for Thursday and that he would follow her.
” Security methods are the responsibility of the appropriate companies, and they must ensure everything is handled properly”, he said.
This trip marks the president’s second attend to the southern regions of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala.
Ms. Paetongtarn will make plans to travel to a meeting to review the status of development projects in the southwestern border regions, such as the Outfit Yai-Sungai Kolok double-track rail project and the development of a horizontal bridge over the Kolok River.
This comes as a distinguished police officer was killed with his brother on Tuesday night when a street bomb struck their pickup truck in Narathiwat, killing them both. Pol Lt Col Suwit Chuaythewarit, 56, and his brother Pol Snr Sgt Maj Dome Chuaythewarit, 35, were killed by the weapon in tambon Sri Banphot of Sri Sakhon region at 9.50am.
The Tua Ngo Border Patrol Police School in tambon Sri Banphot was led by Pol Lt Col Suwit. The principal institution serves about 120 children who are not Thai-language local speakers.
He was a Muslim and a native of Phatthalung, a county in the south. At the frontier police officers class, he and his son were one of 13 instructors.
For his outstanding contributions to knowledge and the advancement of his pupils ‘ life, Pol Lt Col Suwit was presented the Princess Maha Chakri Award ten years ago. His school places a focus on teaching regional students morality and sufficient in life.
He was inspired to become a border police officer by attending another border patrol officers class in his native state of Phatthalung as a child.
