A 22-member table will be set up by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to guide monetary stimulus initiatives to make sure the authorities can fulfill its promise to boost the economy.

Ms. Paetongtarn stated in her government’s policy statement that it aimed to concentrate on policies that would encourage saving, lower living costs, and improve employment and income.

The new committee, chaired by Ms Paetongtarn, comprises nine government ministries including the finance minister and his two deputies, the prime minister’s secretary-general, continuous secretary of the PM’s Office, the Finance and Interior departments, the secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Budget Bureau chairman, the Bank of Thailand government, chair of the Digital Government Development Agency, president of the Government Financial Institutions Association, and the leader of the Thai Bankers ‘ Association.

The table is tasked with designing signal plans, objectives, execution method, criteria and conditions, as well as identifying sources of funding, to be submitted to the government.

It is also responsible for establishing recommendations for repository management, including collection, use, handling and reporting of data to support the implementation of signal jobs.

The board may form working groups and invite individuals to offer opinions or information for consideration. State organizations and businesses are urged to work together.

In a related development, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat announced on Thursday that the second phase of the project’s stimulus program would be carried out with funds already designated for it.

He was speaking out about the possibility of the second phase being abandoned after the government indefinitely delayed announcing the results for those who had registered using a smartphone.

The government made the decision this month to prioritize the distribution of funds, totaling 14.5 million, to the disabled and state welfare card holders. Distribution of 10, 000 baht per head, in the form of cash deposited in their accounts via PromptPay, is scheduled to begin on Sept 25.

According to Mr. Julapun, about 180 billion baht was designated for the second phase, which would be distributed using the digital wallet, which will serve as the foundation for the digital economy.

” We want to lay the foundations for the digital economy as well as to stimulate the economy. We remain firmly committed to our goal”, he said.

Mr. Julapun addressed questions from Sirikanya Tansakun, a member of the opposition People’s Party, about the delay in the release of registration results, saying the delay was done to prevent confusion while the first group of 14.5 million recipients receive cash handouts.
