SINGAPORE: Starting on Friday( Sep 8 ), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will travel to New Delhi for a three-day working visit in order to attend the Group of Twenty ( G20 ) summit.
Mr. Lee will take part in discussions about rules-based multilateralism, online public infrastructure, health, power moves, and sustainable development while attending the annual summit at Narendra Modi’s offer.
The Prime Minister’s Office( PMO) stated in a speech on Friday that he will also include intergovernmental meetings with other leaders outside of the mountain.
The G20 is made up of the best economies in the world and was initially established in 1999 as a platform to discuss international economic and financial problems. It consists of 19 nations and the European Union, accounting for two-thirds of the world’s population and roughly 85 % of global gross domestic product.
For this year, India is in charge of the rotating G20. It aims to foster inclusive growth and hasten the accomplishment of the United Nations’ sustainable development objectives under the style of” One Earth, One Family, and One Potential.”
The mountain, which will take place in India’s capital, is expected to feature officials from big economies, including US President Joe Biden, European Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, American Premier Justin Trudeau, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The two-day elevation will not include Chinese President Xi Jinping or Russian President Vladimir Putin, with representatives from each nation being led by Premier Li Qiang and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Singapore is not a member of the G20, but it has frequently been invited to participate in previous summits and related gatherings, usually as the chairwoman of an informal group of 30 small – and medium-sized United Nations users.
Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Indranee Rajah, and another senior government representatives will travel with Mr. Lee.
Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong may serve as acting prime rector while Mr. Lee is away.
