SINGAPORE: On Sunday, October 15, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong congratulated Christopher Luxon, the newly elected prime minister of New Zealand, on his victory.
In the New Zealand general election on Saturday, Mr. Luxon’s National Party won enough seats to form a partnership with the ACT group to rule the nation.
” I heartily congratulate you on leading the National Party to win at the public vote, on behalf of the government of Singapore ,” Mr. Lee wrote in a letter to Mrs. Luxon.
” In spite of the uncertain times away, I am convinced that New Zealand may prosper under your leadership.
Mr. Lee considered the long-standing near ties between the two nations, which are supported by the Singapore-New Zealand Enhanced Partnership.
As like-minded partners, we have collaborated on a number of path-finding projects, including the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership ( P4 ) and the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement ( DEPA ), according to Mr. Lee.
” I am pleased that both sides are intensifying their cooperation in bolstering supply chain resilience, which would be advantageous for both parties in this extremely difficult and complex international environment.”
Mr. Lee stated that he was looking forward to collaborating with Dr. Luxon to strengthen diplomatic ties as well as local and global cooperation.
As he concluded his letter, Mr. Lee said,” I recall our meeting in June 2022 during your visit to Singapore, and I look forward to meeting you again immediately.”
” I hope everything works out for you and your authorities.”
The six-year rule of the center-left Labour Party, which is led by outgoing Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, came to an end with Mr. Luxon’s win.
In January, Mr. Hipkins took over as the head of New Zealand after Ms. Jacinda Ardern.
