On Wednesday, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra introduced her narcotics control plan by citing the success of the drug control models in the Roi Et district of Thawatchaburi and Nan district.

The Narcotics Control Board convened a meeting at Government House, and Ms. Paetongtarn presided over it. It was attended by Phumtham Wechayachai, deputy prime minister and army secretary, Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin, Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob and members of the Royal Thai Police, armed forces and various government agencies.

The prime minister said the narcotics control scheme is crucial and must be implemented for the country’s long-term development.

” After visiting several provinces, I often receive comments on the medicine problem, whether from MPs or the community. It is a major issue that causes issues in communities and undermines mental health. So, our government has designated the drug problem as one of 10 immediate actions that must be implemented immediately”, she said.

She stated that the government will increase drug control measures implemented under Mr. Srettha Thavisin’s previous leadership to include other regions globally.

She cited some areas where different models have been implemented, specifically the Thawatchaburi Model, which focuses on assistance from the group, destruction and treatment.

Another method in the Tha Wang Ha area focuses on a whole-system approach to reducing drug use, including the seizing of drug dealers ‘ assets and assisting those who enter rehab with a normal life.
