PHUKET: Preparations are being finalised for your tsunami evacuation drill on July 20 in Muang and Thalang districts of this southern island province.

The provincial office of disaster prevention plus mitigation said on Tuesday the drill down will place emphasis on the warning program, command and expulsion.

Phuket has three districts – Muang, Thalang and Kathu : but the drill on July 20 will cover only Muang and Thalang districts. The particular date of the tsunami drill in Kathu district will be made a decision later.

The command centre will be at the tragedy prevention and minimization office, which will be headed by    chief excutive Narong Woonciew, that will linked online with operation centres within the two districts.

The drill down scenario will be that will there  is a tsunami after an earthquake of 7. almost eight magnitude.

The first warning will be given over the nineteen warning towers around the island, followed by notices in five different languages – English, Thailänder, Japanese, Chinese plus Russian – reporting the magnitude of the earthquake.

The second warning will be for people to expels to designated tsunami shelters. There are regarding 200 shelters in the province.

In Muang region, the drill is going to be held at Karon beach, where regarding 100 people may gather. They will run from the beach and take shelter from Wat Suwannakhiri.

In Thalang district, about one hundred people will gather at Nai Yg beach. They are to run from the beach and  take shelter in Wat Mongkolvanaram College.
