After transporting 22 tourists to an area near Phuket on Thursday night, a boat had an engine failure, caught flames, and sank.

The 16.68-gross-tonnage Flamingo Lady 2 left the Ao Po wharf at 10am to get its customers to Naka Yai area.

At 10.35 am, the boat’s straight website ignited in flames between the Naka Yai and Raet islands as it was returning bare to Phuket.

Its commander and expert attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful. The 31-year-old commander, Charoon Roengsamut, suffered minor injuries to his feet.

The catamaran was ultimately engulfed by the fire, which eventually sank.
