LIMAY, Philippines:  , The Philippine Coast Guard planned on Friday ( Jul 26 ) to deploy oil dispersant and floating barriers a day after a tanker carrying 1.4 million litres of industrial fuel sank off Manila.
AFP reporters watched beach guard personnel prepare equipment for a vessel to be used against the soft in Manila Bay at the Port of Limay in Bataan state.
After setting out for the town of Iloilo, the MT Terra Nova sank in rough seas close to 7 kilometers off Limay town on Thursday morning.
The lake, which hundreds of fishermen and hospitality operators rely on for their livelihoods, has been identified as an oil elegant that extends for several kilometers.
However, Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, a spokeswoman for the coast guard, claimed that the tanker’s diesel fuel had leaked and had not yet been delivered in the form of the business fuel oil cargo.
The coastline guard has set a seven-day deadline for the goods to be offloaded to stop what Balilo warned would be the worst fuel flow in Spanish history.
The incident occurred as Typhoon Gaemi’s and the cyclone’s frequent monsoons have slashed Manila and the surrounding areas recently as a result of heavy storms.
