Philippines says Chinese coast guard elevating tensions in South China Sea

MANILA: On May 1st, an official accused China’s beach guard of escalating tensions in the South China Sea after its use of water cannons that destroyed two of its vessels.

A coast guard ship and a fisherys vehicle were damaged on Tuesday by water guns fired by the Chinese beach watch while they were traveling to Scarborough Shoal to help Filipino fishing in the area, according to Spanish authorities.

Commodore Jay Tarriela stated in a presentation that” the Foreign coast guard has now raised the level of their anger and the tensions with the Spanish coast guard vessel.”

The beach protect vehicle has been subjected to a strong water cannon for the first time, and pressure from that stress also led to structural damage.

Tarriela asserted that China has been raising the pressure in China’s water cannons when attacking its boats even though it does not yet constitute an armed attack on its warship and staff.

No nation has any control over the carefully located Scarborough Shoal, a perfect hunting region close to major transport lanes that are used by many nations. The shoal is located within the Philippines ‘ exclusive economic zone ( EEZ ) and has always been a source of friction between it and China.

China claims autonomy over much of the South China Sea, a pipeline for more than US$ 3 trillion of monthly ship- borne business, including components claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.

An international court in 2016 said China’s wide say had no lawful base, a choice Beijing has rejected.
