MANILA:  , Philippine authorities have detained more than 250 people, most of them Chinese, in a raid on a suspected online scam farm in Manila, law enforcement officials said on Friday ( Oct 4).
The National Anti-Organized Crime Commission reported that police and other authorities discovered team with lots of phones, laptops, and pre-registered international and local SIM cards late on Thursday.
The committee referenced schemes where scammers pretend to have romantic feelings for their patients in order to earn their trust before stealing their money in a statement that raised the danger of “love scamming that victimizes international citizens.”
Similar con farms in Asia, frequently run by victims of trafficking who were deceived or forced into promoting phony crypto investments and other con, have raised global concern.
In July, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos outlawed all forms of offshore gambling operators, including online gaming licensing holders, after the gaming sector was found to be linked to economic scams, kidnapping, prostitution, people trafficking, torture and murder.
At the forbidden companies, thousands of foreign workers were given two weeks to keep the Philippines.
At the practices of 3D Analyzer Information Technologies Inc., 62 Filipinos, two Chinese, and 190 Chinese people were taken into custody during the Manila attack on Thursday.
The business used to have an online gaming licence but immediately told authorities it had “ceased functions”, Gilberto Cruz, the executive director of the anti-crime fee, told AFP.
” We’re looking for their passports or working visas, but they could n’t show us anything”, Cruz added.
According to the official, the commission will work with the missions in Beijing and Taipei to negotiate for the repatriation of foreigners.
However, Filipinos found to be involved in scamming actions may be charged in court, he added.
Cruz stated that the commission may even request warrants to seek computers inside the office.
