Philippines death toll from tropical storm Yagi rises to 13

Manila: Due to tropical storm Yagi, at least 13 people have died in the country, and on Tuesday ( Sep. 3 ) schools and government buildings were closed due to the expected bad weather.

Yagi, locally known as Enteng, made landfall on Monday in the northeast area of Casiguran in Aurora state, knocking out electricity in the city, crisis official Elson Egargue said by telephone.

According to state weather company Pag-asa, the center of the storm was off the northeastern city of Laoag in Ilocos state at 8 a.m. local time, off the coast of the northern area of Laoag in Ilocos province.

Yagi was expected to move north over the South China Sea after sustaining gusts of 75 kilometers per hour.

At least 7 persons died in Antipolo, south of Manila, from floods and drowning, authorities said. Four people were reported missing after a disaster and display flood swept them out.

” Search and rescue is ongoing,” Antipolo crisis official Enrilito Bernardo stated via phone.

Fatalities were even reported in the country’s northern regions. Two died in Northern Samar due to a flood, and one man drowned in Negros Oriental, authorities said. According to hazard agent Ernesto Elcamel, three individuals died in the eastern area of Naga.

Another two incidents reported in Cebu’s core area have not yet been officially confirmed as being the result of the wind, according to a catastrophe officer who declined to be identified.

On average, the Philippines experiences 20 tropical winds and storms every year.
