Philippine VP Duterte faces second impeachment complaint

As she is facing inquiries into allegations of death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos and the use of government funds, Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte was subjected to a second impeachment complaint on Wednesday ( Dec. 4).

After her dramatic ally with Marcos ended in agony before the midterm elections of the following year, Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter has been plunged into political chaos.

After tensions between the two prominent families reached a breaking point and have since been shattered, Duterte stepped down as education secretary in her case in June.

Left-wing partnership Makabayan claimed that Duterte betrayed the public for the alleged abuse of millions of dollars in public money while she was minister of education in a complaint filed on Wednesday by activists, teachers, past legislative members, and others.

” The Vice President’s brazen misuse of more than half a billion Philippine pesos ( US$ 8.5 million ) in confidential funds, particularly the suspicious liquidation of 125 million Philippine pesos in just 11 days at the end of 2022, represents a grave betrayal of public trust”, former congressman Teddy Casino, and one of the complainants, said in a statement.

The Filipino individuals deserve transparency from their next highest official, particularly our taxpayers, who bear the cost of funding state operations.

On Monday, a distinct coalition of activists filed an prosecution complaint against Duterte, alleging she of being corrupt and incompetent.

Duterte has denied squandering people money.
