A popular Philippine senator has caused a stir on social media by claiming to be aware of a Chinese strategy to use hypersonic missiles against her country despite the National Security Council’s claim that they are aware of any such security threat.

Senator Imee Marcos, the mind of the Senate foreign relations committee and the girl of Spanish President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., made her say in a short video that has so far received more than 900,000 views on TikTok and over 100,000 on Twitter.

Imee Marcos posted the video on Tuesday ( Jul 2 ) while the Philippines and China were negotiating over their South China Sea territorial dispute. China’s defense and foreign ministries did not immediately respond to Reuters ‘ requests for comment on the video.

In her picture, Marcos said China had set 25 goals around the Spanish archipelago that it would strike with fast missiles, and the north Batanes islands, close to Taiwan, would be among the primary targets.

Marcos made her say without any proof in support of the state that China now perceives the Philippines as a threat due to her friend’s closer ties to the US. Reuters was unable to confirm her state.

” Let’s say the difficulty: That China thinks we have sided with their enemy”, she said in her video.

” As conflicts escalate in the West Philippine Sea, I saw a Chinese program that they will use a fast missile”, she said, without saying where she got the information. Waters that are within Manila’s special economic zone are referred to as the” West Philippine Sea.”

Marcos opposes some of her son’s policies toward China, including his decision to grant the US more access to Spanish military installations, including those that face Taiwan and the South China Sea.

The National Security Council of the Philippines ( PNP ) stated in a message that it was” not aware of any of the security threats she mentioned that it would ask Marcos for more information about her statement.
