Petition on Prayut’s tenure goes to Constitutional Court

A petition submitted by the opposition looking for a ruling around the legal political tenure of Prime Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) Prayut Chan-o-cha was forwarded to the Constitutional Court by the secretariat of the House of Associates on Monday.

The petition was initially handed in order to Parliament President Chuan Leekpai on Aug seventeen , and was checked before becoming forwarded to the courtroom on Monday. It was signed by 171 members of parliament.

The particular court did not fixed a date to principle on whether it could accept the petition for deliberation, but it was  expected to associated with call on Wednesday.

If the courtroom accepts the case it will then make another decison, on regardless of whether Gen Prayut should be temporarily suspended through office until the judges rule on the problem, or if he should continue to work as the prime minister.

Gen Prayut remained silent around the issue on Mon. Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said the best minister did not consider himself above the law.

Deputy Prime Minister Vissanu Krea-ngam said that Style Prayut would still be allowed to attend cabinet meetings as the defence minister, a portfolio he holds concurrently.

The opposition, led by the Pheu Thai Party, is certainly asking the courtroom to rule once the eight-year tenure associated with Gen Prayut ends. The issue has been remaining for interpretation and debate.

The opposition get away and opponents of Gen Prayut think the first day of the eight-year tenure he is restricted to by the constitution was Aug 24, 2014, when he has been installed as excellent minister under the provisional constitution enforced right after he led the coup on May 22 that calendar year.

Their supporters argue that his first day at Government House was 06 9, 2019, under the present constitution, which usually came into force within 2017.

The constitution was drafted to suit the particular wishes of the junta-led government.
