After serving as the book leader of the Democratic Action Party for 25 years in Penang, Mr. Chow Kon Yeow will step down from his position this month.
The Penang Chief Minister announced on Wednesday ( Sep 4 ) that he had decided not to accept a nomination to run in the party’s state elections on Sep 22 in order to defend his chairmanship.
However, under the leadership of Pakatan Harapan’s coalition, he will continue to serve as the chief minister of a crucial condition.
According to Mr. Chow, the party secretary-general ( Anthony Loke ) “had then instructed me to work on a succession plan” when I was reappointed as Chief Minister following the state elections in 2023,” he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
According to Mr. Chow,” I have decided to take the first step in this succession plan to allow for the new president to get elected as the new Penang DAP chair in the upcoming 2024 state party vote.” As a result, the party may have the opportunity to lead and get ready for the next general election.
Malaysia’s following general election must be held in 2027.
Mr. Chow, who also serves in the Batu Kawan national district as the vice-chairman of the DAP, declared that despite bowing out from the condition party administration, he will continue to serve there.
Due to his 25 years as the president of the Penang express DAP, Mr. Chow held the positions of assistant state DAP director for two years and state DAP secretary as assistant state DAP secretary.
” About all, I am indebted to the Penang people for their incredible support and fighting nature during my time as the Penang DAP’s director and state president,” said Mr. Chow.
Secretary-general of the organization Anthony Loke stated that Mr. Chow may serve as deputy minister until the end of his term.
” This is in compliance with the state’s law, which limits the chief leader’s career to a maximum of two words”, Mr Loke was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Now.
Mr. Loke, who is also the transport minister of Malaysia, expressed his gratitude for Mr. Chow’s decision to resign from the upcoming group’s state election, which was held “in the nature of management renewal.”
Usually, the state party key also holds the country’s main minister position.
