SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency ( NEA ) on Friday ( Jan 24 ) lifted its advisory against swimming , and other activities such as wakeboarding at Pasir Ris Beach, citing improvements in water quality.  ,
Pasir Ris Beach received a grade of Fair last year because of the higher frequency of increased Enterococcus bacteria readings in its lakes, which increased the risk of gastroenteritis when the liquid is ingested.  ,
In its latest scoring exercise, the shore was rated Good and is now appropriate for all waters actions.
In the most recent beach grading exercise,” Six out of seven recreational beaches have been designated as” Good” and are suitable for all water activities,” according to a press release from NEA.
The advice against floating and other key email activities at Pasir Ris Beach is lifted with the most recent beach marking results.
Sembawang Beach is the only shore with a Good standing, despite the fact that its water quality has improved since its grade last year, when it was graded Fair.
So, Sembawang Beach residents are also advised against engaging in primary contact sports like swimming.
Main contact activities refer to those that generally involve a person’s entire body, face, and trunk submerged. They include actions like wakeboarding, sailing and waters immersion training.  ,
” Non-primary call water actions, such as sailing, kayaking and canoeing may remain as normal”, NEA said.
The agency noted that Singapore’s outdoor shores are graded based on the World Health Organization’s outdoor water quality rules.  ,
The following scoring test will take place in July 2025.
