Singapore has seven standing find boards, he said, but it does not have any specific ones for specific ministers, he said, noting that this is the custom in nations like the UK and Australia.  ,
The find boards can make suggestions to parliament after scrutinizing legislation and policies, according to Mr. Giam.  ,
” This approach will lead to better decision-making in parliament and more informed and constructive debate,” he added.  ,
Ms. Indranee responded,” I think the question that we have to question ourselves is, in other countries where there are so many find commissions, are they actually better governed? Do they always have better results? Are their legislatures more effective? Is there more faith in their state?
” I may venture to say no to all of those questions,” she said, noting that Singapore consistently performs well in global rankings for governance, transparency, and fraud.  ,
According to Ms. Indranee, it would not be beneficial for every department to have to respond to a select committee.  ,
Therefore, Mr. Giam questioned whether Ms. Indranee believed that select committees did not improve management and trust, and whether she meant that by doing so, the public had less faith in the government.
Ms. Indranee clarified that she was responding to the “underlying premise” that having find boards may improve transparency and management.  ,
” I’m saying that having select committees does n’t necessarily mean you’ll have better governance or accountability. According to her,” the techniques that we have leave a lot of room for state and ministers to be held accountable,” she continued.  ,
