After being arrested for allegedly buying methamphetamine, Australia soccer person Tom Craig apologized after being released from custody in Paris.
The Paris attorney’s office said an entity was arrested on Tuesday nights for buying heroin in the seventh district.
Craig was given a notice before being released, but neither a sentence nor a fine were served.
” First of all, I want to express my regret for what has transpired in the past 24 days.” I made a bad mistake. I take full responsibility for my actions”, Craig said as he left officers practices.
” My steps are my own and in no way reflect the values of my family, my team-mates, my friends, my game, and the Australian Olympic team. I’ve embarrassed you all. I’m absolutely sorry”.
Craig, 28, won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games and has made more than 100 images for Australia.
Australia’s chef de mission Anna Meares said she was “glad” Craig had been released but” could condone” what he had done.
She added:” He is a good person who made a bad decision. However, such a choice has effects.
” He has apologised, shown grief, he has owned up to his error, and we will help him if he needs aid.”
Meares claimed Craig had now left the Olympic Village and would no longer be able to compete in the competition.
Before his release, the prosecutor’s office said:” Police officers who witnessed a heroin transaction at the base of a building in the 9th district ( of Paris ), on the night of August 6th to 7th, apprehended the owner, born in December 2006, and the client, born in September 1995 in Australia and who is said to be a part of the Australian field sports team.
The anti-narcotics authorities have been given the task of handling the investigation given the volume of drugs that were seized from the owner.
Australia’s men’s and women’s hockey team were both knocked out at the quarter-final period at Paris 2024.
