About 670 persons are estimated to be buried under a huge disaster in Papua New Guinea, a UN official says.
The mind of the International Organization for Migration in Papua New Guinea, Serhan Aktoprak, said the effect of Friday’s flood in the government’s isolated Enga state was greater than originally thought.
” There are an estimated 150-plus houses then buried,” Mr Aktoprak said.
The affected areas are in the hills of Enga, in the north of the island state in the south-west Pacific.
Mr Aktoprak said rescuers were at hazard because” the land also sliding”.
” The liquid is running and this is creating a huge risk for all involved,” he said.
