After cutting down dozens of large trees in Chaloem Kanchanaphisek Park to grow” local durian varieties ,” the Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organization ( PAO ) is under fire.
The tambon Bang Sri Muang state’s Chaloem Kanchanaphisek Park spans an area of 98 ray. The Treasury Department is the land’s owner. Its stunning vegetation is well-known.
When people posted issues about the sacking of large branches in the area on social media, the situation came to light.
Some citizens who exercise in the garden complained that it was unfortunate to see the large, old trees cut down because they provided shelter for park visitors.
The Nonthaburi PAO captain, Pol Col Thongchai Yenprasert, came up with the idea to protect regional fruit varieties in 2021, according to Phongpan Kittrasen, senior civil expert at the PAO’s Public Works Bureau.
He had wanted the area to be a display of well-known Nontaburi fruit varieties, so he set aside an eight-rai area for it. A private firm was hired by the PAO with a 46.6 million baht resources to restore the area and plant fresh berry trees.
According to Mr. Phongpan, the project’s start date in July 2021 was set for January 21 of last year, but it was postponed to December of this year due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
Numerous ancient plants were consequently cut down and removed. He added that the trees were too old to be transplanted somewhere, though some weather trees had been cut into logs for the Treasury Department’s continued usage. Among them were American Coral trees, also known as lot strap lang in Thai, as well as rain and ancient santol trees.
