Pakistan struggles to rebuild as millions of homes remain in ruins 2 years after deadly floods

This is especially true for Resham and her brother Sindh residents, who live in some of the hardest-hit regions that are still prone to seasonal storms from monsoon rains.

” ( We take ) whatever relief the government can offer to us. But if they do n’t provide it, we cannot force them. We are weak individuals, we are already in pain”, she said.

About 45 per share of Sindh’s people live below the poverty line. According to estimates from the government, the region’s poverty rates increased by up to 10 % in the wake of the 2022 storms, further putting already-poverished populations in financial ruin.

Developing GREEN HOMES

One of the most pressing issues facing people living in flood-prone places is the need for strong, flood-resistant homes, which the Sindh government is working with UNICEF and the World Bank.

2.1 million damaged families in the province will receive grants worth about US$ 1, 000 each to help them purchase new homes.

Apart from being climate-resilient, the properties even aim to be more environmentally friendly.
