PETALING JAYA: A decision on dissolving the state assemblies held by Pakatan Harapan will be announced by its presidential council in the next 24 to 48 hours, says Fahmi Fadzil.
“We hope within the next 24 to 48 hours,” the Pakatan Harapan communications director told reporters after a nearly four-hour Pakatan presidential council meeting that took place at PKR’s headquarters in Merchant Square on Wednesday (Oct 12).
Fahmi also said the announcement will not affect the current stand of dissolving the state assemblies of Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
“For now, no other changes,” said Fahmi.
Fahmi also said the Pakatan presidential council is currently scrutinising matters brought up during the meeting.
“God-willing, the Pakatan leadership will make an announcement,” he said.
Previously, Pakatan said three states under its helm – Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan – would not dissolve its state assemblies.
Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the state will not be holding state polls this year.
On Tuesday (Oct 11), the issue of dissolving the Penang state assembly simultaneously with Parliament was brought up to the DAP central executive committee (CEC) meeting.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke had said Penang DAP sent a proposal to reconsider the decision of not dissolving the state assembly alongside Parliament.
Loke had said many reasons were given and among the strongest arguments was that many locals in Penang would not want to vote twice.
Earlier Tuesday (Oct 11), Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government will stick to its decision to only dissolve its legislative assembly next year.
Amirudin’s remarks came following an audience with the Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
