Paetongtarn orders swift aid for stranded flood victims

As the northeastern province continues to be inundated, with powerful currents making rescue operations challenging, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Friday ordered authorities to immediately assist those affected by severe flooding in the Mae Sai city of Chiang Rai.

After receiving a lecture in Mae Sai, Ms. Paetongtarn stated,” We need to rapidly provide food and water to people stranded in their houses.” She also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all workers working in relief efforts.

She continued,” The government has allocated a central resources to aid flood victims, which enables immediate help without holding off until the circumstances improve.”

Mae Sai is one of the hardest-hit towns, facing rapidly rising waters from the Sai River and discharge. Jet skis are the only means of transporting food and other necessary things to residents of the border town, which is located across Thachilek in Myanmar.

Airlines to Chiang Rai were forced to be canceled on Thursday due to the flooding, but activities resumed on Friday.

Following heavy rain earlier in the week, the city and its environs remained buried. The scenario remained important, according to officials who informed the prime minister that while the floodwaters were forecast to fade after on Friday.

In six regions of Chiang Rai, 45,300 homeowners were impacted by flooding and floods, according to the Hazard Prevention and Mitigation Department, which reported at least four fatalities.

The station between Mae Sai and Thachilek was reopened on Friday after being closed as a result of the storms. But, cars are not allowed to cross the frontier at this time. The second Thai-Myanmar viaduct over the Sai River connects the station with it.
