Previous Bangkok MP Wan Ubumrung left his position as a group member on Wednesday after engaging in fraternity with a group rival in a local election, according to Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

Ms. Paetongtarn said she and Pheu Thai MPs had a conversation about the conversation that broke out after the provincial administrative organization ( PAO ) chairman’s election on June 30 in Pathum Thani.

Mr Wan was seen with Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Toopkrajang, a close family friend, as they watched the votes being counted. Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit, who was running on the Khon Rak Pathum ( Love Pathum ) ticket, was a favourite to win, but he lost to Pheu Thai candidate Charn Phuangphet by less than 2, 000 votes.

Mr. Charn is now facing a disqualification pending the outcome of an investigation into allegations of corruption from his previous positions more than ten years ago.

Some in the group were offended by the meeting between Mr Wan and Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit, and he was called in to reveal himself to Ms. Paetongtarn.

Mr. Wan told the audience that he thought it was okay for him to meet Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit, who has a close relationship with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the de facto Pheu Thai president.

According to Mr. Wan, the meeting took place after the elections had locked, so it would not have had an impact on the election results.

He then resisted leaving the party on July 9 after speaking with Ms. Paetongtarn. He thought it was best to leave because the party’s behavior caused him to believe that he no more qualifies as an advantage.

Mr Wan is the brother of former legislator Chalerm Yubamrung, presently a Pheu Thai list-MP. Prior to the 2023 vote, Move Forward stranger Rukchanok Srinork defeated Mr. Wan by more than 20 000 vote in the Bang Bon region of Bangkok.

Ms. Paetongtarn stated on Wednesday that she was pleased to had met Mr. Wan. Party secretary-general Sorawong Thienthong even attended the change.

” We opened off and I thought that as a group leader, I was obliged to be frank with people”, she said. Clearing the air had “dial up any misunderstandings within the group regarding the matter.” That’s crucial”.

Everything she said during the meeting with Mr. Wan was spectacular or exciting, according to the Pheu Thai leader. She did not attempt to dramatize Mr. Wan’s conversation with the former MP or her meeting in Pathum Thani.

” I do n’t hold any grudge towards Mr Wan whatsoever”, said Ms Paetongtarn, adding that she wished him every success in his future endeavours.

Additionally, Ms. Paetongtarn said she planned to speak with Worachai Hema, a red-shirt head and advisor to Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, about his new accusations of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin.

On July 6, Mr. Worachai criticised Mr. Srettha for what he claimed were inconsequential province trips.
