Over S$5,500 worth of clothes stolen from shops along Bayfront Avenue, Harbourfront Walk; woman arrested

SINGAPORE: A 63- year- old woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing over 100 pieces of clothing worth more than S$ 5, 500 ( US$ 4, 071 ), the police said on Monday ( May 6 ).

The authorities said they were alerted&nbsp, by a business manager&nbsp, at about 9pm on May 5 that a person was “behaving curiously” in a retail shop along Harbourfront Walk.

The woman was reportedly seized by the shop manager because she had a number of paid items in her possession. &nbsp,

Officers later arrested her and&nbsp, more than 100 pieces of marketed things believed to be stolen were recovered from her place of hospitality.

More than$ 5,500 was the total price of the supposedly stolen goods, according to the police.

The lady is suspected of being involved in a number of store theft cases along Harbourfront Walk and Bayfront Avenue, according to preliminary investigations.

On Tuesday, she will face robbery in a home in court. &nbsp, If found guilty, the person faces up to seven times ‘ prison and a good.

They even advised retailers to take the following precautions to safeguard their shops from fraud:

  • Display cheap merchandise in locked shows or at popular areas like nearby&nbsp, cashier counters. &nbsp,
  • Install closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs ) with a recording system at the store’s entrance or exit to record customers ‘ facial features.
  • Install enough security personnel to guard the building while wearing bright vests for better physical deterrence.
