Over 53,000 flats to get S$742 million upgrade in latest round of HDB’s home improvement scheme

HDB said the roll-out of this enhanced repair method follows the success of an earlier trial which began in November 2021. 

As part of the trial, HDB used the enhanced method to carry out repairs in the toilets of more than 300 flats that were undergoing HIP. Sample checks on these flats so far have not revealed any further spalling in the repaired toilets. 

“Over the years, our HDB’s research team has continued to pursue innovative ways to improve the liveability in both our estates and our homes,” said Mr Lee.

“And through a very close partnership with our industry partners and by leveraging on new technology, my colleagues at HDB have continuously been trying to improve the way we maintain our homes and estates, by developing more effective and sustainable methods.”

HDB said that this method, which is more costly and requires more time, will generally be used for the repair of spalling concrete in toilets, which are most prone to spalling. 

For spalling concrete in other locations, such as kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms, HDB will continue with the current localised repair method, which remains effective.
