Over 20 tonnes of drugs burned

As part of the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, about 20 tonnes of narcotics worth more than$ 6 billion were destroyed on Wednesday at Bangpu Industrial Estate in Samut Prakan, according to the Public Health Ministry.

Government moved to kill the drugs that had been seized after numerous crackdowns across the country for the second time in 2024. The occasion was planned to commemorate the annual International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26 each month.

Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin assigned Opas Karnkawinpong, the agency’s continuous minister, to handle the occasion. Participating in it were representatives from various organizations, including the Royal Thai Police and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board ( ONCB).

In overall, about 20.6 kilograms of medicines were destroyed at the perhaps– including 19.9 kilos of meth, 274 kilogrammes of cocaine, 312kg of morphine, and 48kg of opium. According to estimates, the drugs have a street price of about 6.45 billion baht.

According to Mr. Somsak, the federal plan places a high priority on preventing the smuggling of illegal drugs.
