One dead from Taiwan store blast, four others ‘without vital signs’

One person was killed and four others were left “without vital signs” by an explosion in a Taiwan department store on Thursday ( Feb 13 ), according to authorities. Videos showed large pieces of debris raining down on the street.

According to the National Fire Agency, another seven people were hurt in the explosion at the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi office shop in Taichung’s central western town, which occurred on the 12th floor.

The location was reportedly closed for building work at the time of the incident, according to the organization.

The time of the explosion was captured in a movie posted on social media and verified by AFP, with covering and other particles flying off the tower and dirt accumulating in.

” I was working in the city government creating around 11.30am and because it’s right next to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi section business, I felt a vibration”, Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen told reporters.

” The evacuation is ongoing and the detonation is very serious,” the statement reads.
