The SAF has even begun to change its clinical classification system, which is no longer based on a binary combat-fit or non-combat match.
Mr. Heng first made the announcement during the 2021 budget controversy in his ministry.
According to him,” The new program will evaluate each soldier on a more detailed size, allowing better characterization of their health fitness and practical capacity so that they can get better matched to more operationally , successful roles.”
This is a fundamental shift that we are thoroughly studying and deciding how to put into practice.
In addition to the conventional medical screening, the SAF has been conducting practical assessments for pre-enlistees with a number of orthopedic conditions over the past two decades.  ,
About 300 pre-enlistees have gone through various efficient assessments since 2022, according to Mr. Heng, and 230 of them, or two-thirds, have been able to make a more effective contribution to a wider variety of roles.
The SAF has also used technology to improve the chances for service members to deploy.  ,
It has since 2021 revised 2, 000 positions across 25 fields, including conflict medics, army carrier vehicle operators, and military authorities.
More than 1, 000 NSFs have thus far been deployed in a wider variety of administrative tasks, according to MINDEF.
CMPB TO START PROGRESSIVELY
The new Central Manpower Base ( CMPB), which will be next to Cashew MRT place, will gradually open in stages starting in May 2025 in an effort to enhance the NS experience.  ,
During the last month’s budget debate, Mr. Heng recently announced the new facility. It will take the place of the present one at Depot Road.
The fresh CMPB will act as NS administration’s included “one-stop” service center. This includes completing medical exams, going to NS health events at the all-weather fitness center, and purchasing Na necessities, according to Mr. Heng.
