Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will lead a government tour to Chiang Mai and its neighboring state, Chiang Rai, on Friday for the cabinet meeting to take place in the province.
The visit is planed for Thursday until Sunday ( Nov 28-Dec 1 ), Jirayu Houngsub, spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Office, said.
The PM may be attending a number of functions at the north mobile cabinet meeting in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, he said on Sunday, adding that it is an important component of the government’s effort to promote north hospitality, which aims to resurrect the region’s economy following previous significant floods.
The evaluation of measures taken to combat wildfires and the associated haze problem, which typically affects the North and devastates its tourism between the end of the cold season and the summer, is one of these important responsibilities of the PM, he said.
Tourism development in the northern regions is also high on the plan because tourism is expected to be a key tool to help generate income and boost the country’s economy, he said.
He stated that the PM and government officials will take a trip from Wing 6 of the Royal Air Force to Chiang Mai International Airport on Thursday at 8 p.m.
At 10am on Friday, she is to head the smart cabinet meeting at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University in Mae Rim city, said the official.
The PM may be present at a number of events later that day, including a conference on how to prepare for annual bushfires and their effects, particularly the risky ultra-fine dust pollution PM2.5.
The PM may also go to neighboring Chiang Rai for a meeting on plans for economic recovery and disaster prevention in the Mae Sai district, according to Mr. Jirayu.
