State media reported on Sunday ( Sep. 8 ) that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stressed the need to strengthen his naval force during a tour of a construction site for a naval base.
The development of a naval base to house the most recent large ships has become a pressing task, Kim said.” We are quickly going to have large surface ships and submarines that cannot be anchored by the existing services for mooring warships.”
Kim emphasized the need to construct a naval port that can house the ships ‘ arms, and he also cited military strategies to build anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the port, according to the report.
Kim claimed that the site’s tactical position as a strategic point from which to view the nation’s eastern and western borders was advantageous because it offered a strategic advantage over the water. The statement did not specify where the site was located.
