North Korea plans to launch major tourism site next year though it still blocks foreign tourists

In order to revive its economy, North Korea has been gradually easing its terrible pandemic-era curbs and access restrictions. However, it has n’t yet reopened its borders to foreigners, aside from a small number of Russians who came to the country earlier this year as ties between the two nations grew.

Since they made up about 90 % of all international visitors to North Korea prior to the pandemic, a return of Chinese travelers would likely be a much bigger source of income. In 2019, a document 300, 000 international tourists visited North Korea, earning the state between US$ 90 million and US$ 150 million, researchers say.

The director-general of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization made the second excursion by a UN official since 2019 and traveled to North Korea on Wednesday. Director-General Qu Dongyu claimed Director-General’s journey was intended to strengthen its relationship with North Korea and tackle the nation’s issues with food security and nutrition.

When North Korea would permit the transfer of foreign staff members of UN organizations was not immediately known. The withdrawal of diplomats and foreigners was one of North Korea’s strict pandemic restrictions.
