Noppadon Pattama, a former foreign affairs minister, welcomed the announcement of a peace and prisoner release agreement between Israel and the violent group Hamas yesterday, saying he hoped the six Thai captives who are still in Hamas ‘ custody would soon be released.
Mr Noppadon, who is now a Pheu Thai MP, said he was delighted by the announcement of the peace deal, which came into effect yesterday.
He noted that the agreement will allow the transfer of 33 captives who were taken by Hamas during its lethal offensive on October 7, 2023 in addition to end the battling and assault of the Gaza Strip. In exchange for the transfer of hundreds of Arab captives from Israeli prison, the organization has agreed to give them up.
Noppadon:
Thirty-one Thais were taken hostage following the attack, with 23 released thus far. Two were confirmed dead next May, leaving six also in Hamas ‘ prison.
No information about which victims would be released first, he said, making it uncertain whether Thai citizens held by Hamas would be included in the next round of exchanges.
Therefore, Mr. Noppadon urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carefully monitor the situation. Additionally, he extended his support to the victims ‘ people and those who have been impacted by the issue.
Additionally, Mr. Noppadon expressed his hope that the peace deal will help to create a lasting Middle East peace.
