NOB to investigate case of "son of Buddha reincarnate"

The Social Development and Human Security Ministry will collaborate with the National Office of Buddhism to investigate whether the unconventional Buddhist teachings preached by an eight-year-old son called” Nong Nice” whose families claim he is the Lord Buddha’s child in a past life are true.

The Prime Minister’s Office secretary Puangpet Chunlaiad gave the NOB the order to investigate the situation.

Ms. Puangpet stated that NOB director Intaporn Chaniam and ministry officials did look into the Nong Nice situation, in which the boy allegedly has psychic abilities to communicate with followers.

He said the investigation may be established to determine whether the allegations were intended to deceive people.

Nong Nice allegedly runs programs and forums where devotees can meditate and converse with one another.

Although the child does not accumulate any money from enthusiasts, operational costs are said to be incurred.

According to Ms. Puangpet, the teen’s parents must also be interviewed to find out if they have been disclosing any information about him.

Minister Varawut Silpa-Archa stated that the government are gathering data, including digital recordings of the boy’s actions, before submitting them to psychology at Surat Thani Hospital and the Rajanagarindra Institute of Child and Adolescent Mental Health for evaluation.

However, Niramit Theva Chuti, a Instagram page that disseminates Nong Nice’s lessons, released a statement warning that it is considering suing media outlets which report “false reports” about Nong Nice and his family.

The blog’s operator may also ask the prime minister for his support in ensuring Nong Nice’s justice.

The technician further stated that the government may intervene and take steps to stop media coverage that harm Nong Nice’s standing.
