The Ministry of Education has been urged by the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand ( NHRC ) to establish clear guidelines that prohibit teachers and educational personnel from engaging children in online content that violates their rights, as well as to create a concrete action plan to address these issues.
According to Commissioner Wasan Paileeklee, child-related information has increasingly become a methods of child abuse, both directly and indirectly, for instance, to get wants, stock, enthusiasts, or revenue from advertising.
Children are frequently depicted as goods in order to attract public interest. Many of these types of videos, such as those of naked kids, crying kids, or being forced into certain behaviors, are incorrect.
Mr. Wasan cited complaints about teachers who engaged children in glad design without disclosing their identities or private information. This can lead to incorrect or offensive remarks, sexualized information, stalking, or threats, which could put children at risk of online abuse and exploitation.
The NHRC suggests that the relevant organizations, including the Ministry of Education, the Office of the Basic Education Commission ( Obec), the Teachers ‘ Council, and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, collaborate to implement child protection laws in schools.
These may include raising the public’s, teachers’, and parents ‘ awareness of children’s rights in online conditions. Additionally, it should be closely monitored when producing and disseminating child-related content to check whether it complies with ethical standards and the Personal Data Protection Act ( PDPA ).
To control the do of teachers and educational specialists, discipline should be taken.
Additionally, the committee suggests that professor training curricula cover topics relating to children’s rights and expand the skills of the staff members charged with protecting children from online abuse.
To instruct students and parents about children’s rights, campaigns, training sessions, and open outreach may be conducted.
Children shouldn’t be used as tools to increase likes or followers, mainly in ways that defame them or endanger their lives, according to Mr. Wasan.
