Bangkok’s gateway airport’s plane handling capacity will be increased by 53 % with expansion.
According to Airports of Thailand ( AoT), the third runway at Suvarnabhumi Airport will be operational by the end of the year, lifting the current aircraft handling capacity from 68 to 94 planes per hour.
Aeronautical Radio of Thailand ( Aerothai ), Thai Airways International, and Bangkok Flight Services were among the participants in a full-scale trial of the new runway on Thursday.
According to Kittipong Kittikachorn, the carrier’s public administrator, a civilian aircraft properly took off from and eventually landed on the new airport.
The test focused on the physical elements of the airport, including taxiways and supporting products, and its general security, said Mr Kittipong.
Earlier on Aug 14, the Royal Thai Air Force used its ATR-72 aircraft to do a similar test on the airport, which was also a victory, Mr Kittipong said.
Following the trial on Thursday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand ( CAAT ) and related organizations provided information to Suvarnabhumi Airport regarding the improvements that need to be made before the runway is officially opened.
According to Mr. Kittipong, the new airport may increase the airport’s processing power from 68 to 94 plane per hour, which will put it on par with other top airports in the area.
In related news, AoT producer Kirati Kijmanawat reported that the business made a net income of 14.9 billion baht during the company’s first nine months of operation up until June 30. Compared to the same time last month, when international travel size was significantly lower, that number increased by 178 % to 5.36 billion.
The company earned 50.76 billion baht in revenue, up 53.3 % year-on-year, while operational expenses rose 23.6 % to 29.5 billion, said Mr Kirati.
The increased traffic is seen at all the six airports managed by SET-listed AoT, which are all in line with the improved economic performance. All told, they handled 90 million people, up 21.2 % from the same period a year earlier.
