New shop by Bakerzin founder sells 16 types of ang ku kueh including gula melaka, Parma ham and truffle

The area in Paragon Shopping Centre opposite Ya Kun Kaya Toast has been deserted for the longest time. So we did a double get when we just discovered a retro-hip shop selling various sa ku kueh items close to the ATM.

Madam Ang KK offers a whopping 16 taste of the classic Hokkien meal, tastefully displayed in tones of brilliant red, green, purple, yellow and black. &nbsp,

The 54-year-old pastry chef Daniel Tay, leader and team president of well-known brands like present Singaporean cook buy Old Seng Choong, cake line Cat &amp, The Fiddle, and the now-defunct bakery cafe chain Bakerzin, opened the week-old takeaway stand.

The former world famous restaurant, known for his Western-style pastries like cupcakes and fruit shortcakes, told 8days. gs that he’s returning to his Mandarin roots with projects like Madam Ang KK and Old Seng Choong.

” When I turned 40, I realised: I’m Chinese! I should be ashamed if I do n’t know my Chinese desserts. I’m really good at making French and other Western pastries, and people respect me for that, but when I reached 40, I realised I must have a deeper knowledge of my own ]heritage’s ] pastries”, Tay explained of his decision to launch Madam Ang KK.

Usually, the kueh, which literally translates to ‘ red turtle pie’ in Hokkien, is made with sticky rice flour skin and filled with a nice filling like green bean and peanuts.

But, Madam Ang KK introduces a wide selection of lovely and savoury taste that we’ve not seen elsewhere. Hope unusual fillings like Parma bacon onion oil, XO crab sauce, and truffle mushrooms besides the standard green bean and peanut. &nbsp,
