SINGAPORE: A new bus depot at Sengkang West will be the first multi-storey bus depot to support the large-scale deployment of electric buses, said the Land Transport Authority ( LTA ) on Wednesday ( Oct 23 ).
The five-storey bus depot, which can accommodate a fleet of 500 electric and diesel/hybrid buses, will be fitted with 240 electric vehicle ( EV ) chargers.
” Each of these batteries provide up to 360kW of electricity, allowing for single-deck cars to be completely charged in less than 1.5 time”, said LTA.
” These batteries are equipped with bright charging works to optimise charging speed and efficiency, with real-time tracking, control and medical skills”.
SBS Transit ( SBST ) received the bus depot from LTA in August, and SBST has since begun preparing the depot for use in early 2025.
The station houses an operations command center, repair facilities, a team canteen, and a lounge for bus captains.
It will also contain an eight-storey team rooms, comprising 39 apartment units that can hold up to 350 beds, to deliver on-site lodging for travel workers, including vehicle captains.
” Each room has ensuite restrooms, a restaurant, and a garden”, LTA said. Additionally, employees may have access to recreation amenities like a TV room and a multi-purpose house within the building.
According to LTA, the depot may have clean roofs, solar renewable systems, and rainwater recycling systems in line with its efforts to promote economic sustainability.  ,
