New push to punish MPs, officials who avoid summonses
Rangsiman: Frequent problem

A bill aimed at punishing ministers and state officials who are summoned from House committees has been proposed by the Move Forward Party ( MPP ).

Rangsiman Rome, an MFP list-MP and president of a House committee on state safety, on  Thursday   submitted a proposal to parliament outlining the sanctions against those who do n’t respond to a House committee’s summonses.

According to the proposed legislation, state officials will face disciplinary action while MPs who do n’t show up will face an ethics investigation.

However, the council’s members are answerable for punishments as well if it is determined that the committee in query is calling someone to speak with a malicious intent to scare them.

According to Mr. Rangsiman, the proposed law is intended to make it easier for House commissions to carry out their work more efficiently.

He cited the House committee he leads as an example, claiming that council members frequently found it challenging to call in specific organizations or officials to address their inquiries.

” Usually, we will call for a particular person or secretary to appear, but they will rather move on the responsibility to another people,” he said.

When the witness does not have the final say in the matter, it’s difficult to get a clearer thought of a condition. The meetings ends up being a waste time and money, and they’re not in the best interests of the people,” said Mr Rangsiman.

Mr. Rangsiman claimed to have spoken with House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha and people of 35 House committees, all of whom are dealing with the same issue.
