Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai reported that a screen has been established to oversee the selling of 15, 000 kilograms of grain leftover from the contentious rice-pledging system launched during former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s management.
He said the panel will create the terms of reference ( TOR ) for the rice auction, adding that the ToR is anticipated to be finished by the end of this month.
He claimed that the National Rice Policy and Management Committee ( NRPMC) does n’t need to consider the TOR because the committee has already granted panel approval.
The board comprises members from the Public Warehouse Organisation, the Marketing Organisation for Farmers, the Internal Trade Department, the Foreign Trade Department and the Thai Chamber of Commerce, he said.
He stated that the bid is scheduled to be finished in the first few days of the month or not later than the end of June.
According to Mr. Phumtham, bids will be able to evaluate the quality of the corn in accordance with the standards set by the Commerce Ministry.

Prior to this, Mr. Phumtham urged critics to stop “devaluing” the rice and move on to more pressing issues like the economy, claiming that the Department of Medical Sciences ( DMSc ) and a private laboratory had checked it and determined it safe for consumption.
The Commerce Ministry sent the Commerce Ministry’s grain samples for testing on Monday, according to the DMSc.
But, some still questioned whether the wheat samples were from the two Surin warehouses, where the wheat had been kept.
They suggested that fresh testing get conducted, and that media outlets would be the first to observe the whole process.
